​Under the current collective bargaining agreement (CBA), NBA teams need to be more careful than ever with the sort of contracts they give out, or they can find themselves where the Boston Celtics did when they had to decide the future of star forward Jaylen Brown with the team. That decision ultimately led to the trade of the Georgia native to the Philadelphia 76ers, but even with such a seismic move having been made, the hard choices for Boston are not entirely settled yet.Among them include a potential extension for Celtics guard Payton Pritchard, who is eligible for a considerable raise in October. But Fast PP has evidently been putting that low on his priority list for the season ahead of the Celtics given his words in a recent interview with the NBC Sports Boston “Celtics Talk” podcast. “I don’t really think about it. It’s just not something I’m really looking at,” said Pritchard via NBC Sports Boston’ Michael Hurley. “I have two years on my contract and … there’s no rush on it. We’ll talk, obviously, but we have a whole next year to talk about an extension.””For me, it’s like, just focus on getting better and becoming the best basketball player I can possibly be,” added the University of Oregon alum.And while his attention is trained on what Boston needs him to in the season to come, that does not mean the exit of Brown isn’t something that Pritchard thinks about. “It’s the NBA at the end of the day,” he said. “It’s part of the business. Things change; you lose close friendships, brotherhoods.””We won the championship together, and I’m very grateful for the relationship I’ve had with JB, because he took me under his wing, pushed me, made me better. And he’s a phenomenal player, so he’ll be missed mightily.
