After UFC Edmonton pre-fight silence, Joaquin Buckley ready to talk after KO loss

Joaquin Buckley made a production out of not saying much ahead of his UFC Edmonton main event. The cesspool that is MMA social media went bananas over his refusal to shake UFC CEO Dana White’s hand, or opponent Mike Malott’s, at the ceremonial weigh-ins. Moments later, his backstage interview on the live-streamed weigh-ins show was a spectacle when he refused to answer any questions from McKenzie Pavacich and instead just stared straight ahead into the camera. But Buckley (21-9 MMA, 11-7 UFC) also wasn’t saying much while he was unconscious and when his brain was coming back online Saturday after Malott (15-2-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) hit him with a sickening knee to the chin that sent his mouthpiece flying. It was Buckley’s third straight loss on the heels of a six-fight winning streak that had him in welterweight title contention at one point.Although the KO was brutal – arguably the worst he’s ever taken – Buckley posted on social media after the fight. And it seems that now, he’s ready to talk – and to plug his social media accounts.”The fight didn’t go my way – not at all,” Buckley said in a video on his Instagram Stories. “There was a lot of expectations for me to go out there and knock Malott out. But at the end of the day, people were entertained, people enjoyed the show, and I truly believe what I did, at the end of the day, it helped bring more eyes to the game.”Regardless of what people say, what’s going on, I’m just going to get back to work and keep putting on for the name: ‘I Am Joaquin Buckley.’ It’s my Kick channel. I’m not going to stpo. I’m going to keep moving forward. … At the end of the day, I’m a fighter that fights. There are some other things I’m going to get into that I think are really going to help my content … so go follow me, man. For real.”He also went on his aforementioned Kick channel to watch back the fight – and compared Malott’s knockout that left him faceplanted to something out of AI. Check out those reactions below. He’s also had a pair of RAF wrestling losses in that stretch, too, leaving him without a win since he finished Colby Covington in December 2024, the sixth win on the streak that had him in contention. This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: After UFC Edmonton pre-
