AJ Dybantsa continued to introduce himself in promising fashion to the NBA. In his second Summer League outing on Sunday in Las Vegas, the No. 1 overall pick put up 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Washington Wizards defeated the Sacramento Kings 104-85. The performance followed his 27-point display on Thursday against the Jazz, giving Dybantsa a 25-point-per-game average through two Summer League games, narrowly trailing his national-best 25.5 points per game from his standout BYU season.
While his scoring has been eye-catching, it was Dybantsa’s defense that drew the most attention against Sacramento. He totaled two blocks and three steals while committing no fouls, demonstrating relentless effort and a strong two-way impact on the floor. Dybantsa poured in 17 of his 23 points in the first 14 minutes, showing a hot start before tapering a bit after halftime, then ramping up again in the fourth quarter to finish strong.
Offensively, he shot 6-for-15 from the floor on Sunday, including a 4-for-8 clip in the first half, and went 5-for-6 at the free-throw line. He also handed out two assists. His 3-point shooting remained a work in progress; after going 0-for-0 on long-range attempts on Thursday, he went 1-for-6 from beyond the arc on Sunday. That marks a clear area for growth as he prepares for his rookie season this October.
Despite the early growing pains from distance, Dybantsa’s college strengths—finding his spots, drawing free throws, and navigating through traffic to the rim—have translated smoothly to the Summer League stage. Those skills, combined with his willingness to pressure the basket and create offense, provide optimism about his NBA upside.
Dybantsa posted a plus-18 mark in 24 minutes for Washington on Sunday and now sits at about 25.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game through two Summer League appearances, while shooting 40 percent from the field. His early versatility and impact on both ends of the floor have sparked intrigue about how his game will mature once he faces a higher level of competition in the forthcoming season. As the Wizards continue to evaluate his readiness and refine his wide-ranging skill set, the early returns suggest Dybantsa could become a compelling developmental piece with significant long-term potential.
