​Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell doesn’t lack confidence.After his first career start in his redshirt freshman season, where Alabama beat East Carolina 48-10, Russell entered his press conference to make an incredibly bold statement about him and wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams.“At the end of the season, you’re gonna be looking at the best duo in the country.”One of the most intriguing storylines of Alabama’s 2026 season will be the chemistry between Russell and Coleman-Williams.Talent wasn’t the question. Coleman-Williams has already shown Bama Nation what he can do when he’s at his best. But last season in particular, he had struggled mightily when it came to catching the ball.In 2025, he finished the season with 689 receiving yards, 176 less than his freshman season, and had four fewer touchdowns.On Saturday, when Russell threw a pass to No. 1, who was wide open, the ball bounced off his bare hands.A collective groan echoed throughout Bryant-Denny Stadium, and you could almost hear Bama Nation thinking, “Here we go again.”But Coleman-Williams redeemed himself.Russell launched it to No. 1 for a 58-yard completion. And to round out the day, Coleman-Williams finished with 130 yards on five receptions. “I just gotta show up for my team,” Coleman-Williams said after the game. “I have a great young quarterback that expects me to make those plays, and I’m gonna make those plays, and just get back to the drawing board, get back to work.” Don’t expect Saturday to be a one-off, the plan is to run with the junior receiver as the top dog all season.“We’re gonna keep feeding him,” head coach Kalen DeBoer said. “He’s a relentless worker, and he’s gonna keep getting the ball. He had some catches in contact and caught some balls in traffic. And so, just getting out there, he’s a captain for us. We’re not gonna shy away from going to Ryan, I know that.”Coleman-Williams entered this season in an attempt to shed his sophomore season energy away from him.He added “Coleman” to his name to honor his mother, changed his number back to No. 1 – the  number he wore in high school, and stopped wearing gloves during games.Saturday was certainly a good start. Now, Coleman-Williams has to prove Russell’s bold prediction wasn’t just preseason confidence.
