Alexander Zverev and Marcelo Melo lost to Luke Johnson and Sander Arends in the first round of the Shanghai Masters doubles tournament. In singles, Zverev defeated Wu Yibing in the second round of the Shanghai Masters, but couldn’t replicate that success in doubles. Partnering with Brazilian veteran Melo, Zverev fell short in the first round. It’s not the first time they’ve suffered an early exit this season, either. The German/Brazilian duo won a title earlier this year, but haven’t won back-to-back matches together since. After Zverev’s latest defeat, we thought now would be a good time to analyse his 2026 doubles record.Alexander Zverev has won less than 50% of the doubles matches he’s played this seasonThrough 20 matches, Zverev is 9-11 in doubles competition this season. He’s won eight matches with Melo, four of which came at the Mexican Open, the event they won in February. Zverev also won a match at the Laver Cup with Casper Ruud.Alexander Zverev’s 2026 doubles record (9-11)MatchPartnerOpponentsResultScoreMexican Open – 1RMarcelo MeloSantiago Gonzalez/David PelWIN6-4, 3-6, 10-4Mexican Open – QFMarcelo MeloMiguel Angel Reyes-Varela/Nuno BorgesWIN6-3, 3-6, 10-4Mexican Open – SFMarcelo MeloRafael Jodar/Rodrigo Pacheco MendezWIN6-3, 7-5Mexican Open – FMarcelo MeloRobert Galloway/Alexander ErlerWIN6-3, 6-4Indian Wells – 1RMarcelo MeloFelix Auger-Aliassime/Sebastian KordaLOSS7-6, 2-6, 5-10Miami Open – 1RMarcelo MeloJohn Peers/Evan KingLOSS6-4, 6-7, 4-10Monte Carlo Masters – 1RMarcelo MeloJan Zielinski/Luke JohnsonWIN6-3, 6-3Monte Carlo Masters – 2RMarcelo MeloHoracio Zeballos/Marcel GranollersLOSS6-7, 1-6Munich Open – 1RMarcelo MeloSadio Doumbia/Fabien ReboulLOSS3-6, 3-6Madrid Open – 1RMarcelo MeloStefanos Tsitsipas/Luciano DarderiLOSS5-7, 4-6Italian Open – 1RMarcelo MeloMate Pavic/Marcelo ArevaloLOSS4-6, 3-6Halle Open – 1RMarcelo MeloZizou Bergs/Alexander BublikWIN6-4, 6-7, 10-5Halle Open – QFMarcelo MeloFlavio Cobolli/Ben SheltonLOSS6-7, 3-6Canadian Open – 1RMarcelo MeloAlexis Galarneau/Duncan ChanLOSS3-6, 6-7Cincinnati Open – 1RMarcelo MeloAlejandro Tabilo/Mariano NavoneWIN7-6, 6-3Cincinnati Open – 2RMarcelo MeloOrlando Luz/Rafael MatosLOSS6-7, 3-6Laver CupCasper RuudBrandon Nakashima/Alexander BublikWIN6-4, 7-6China Open – 1RMarcelo MeloRobin Haase/Constantin FrantzenWIN6-2, 7-5China Open – QFMarcelo MeloJulian Cash/Lloyd GlasspoolLOSS2-6, 4-6Shanghai Masters – 1RMarcelo MeloLuke Johnson/Sander ArendsLOSS6-7, 6-7Alexander Zverev’s 2026 doubles recordZverev and Melo have lost six first-round matches this year, often struggling against more traditional doubles pairs.
