Analyst Gives His Pick for Jaguars’ Biggest Remaining Offseason Priority

The Jacksonville Jaguars are heading into the 2026 season with the highest expectations that they have had in quite some time.Coming off a 13-4 record and AFC South division title, the Jaguars are a legitimate Super Bowl contender this season.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementEven as they continue to be overlooked by national media outlets like ESPN when discussing the NFL’s top teams, the Jaguars have one of the most complete rosters in the AFC.Jacksonville has a quarterback in Trevor Lawrence who, despite certain rankings, is evolving into one of the NFL’s best. It also has last season’s top run defense and is giving phenom Travis Hunter a full-time role at cornerback in 2026, while also still letting him play wide receiver occasionally. The Jaguars also have one of the league’s deepest WR rooms, with Brian Thomas Jr., Jakobi Meyers, and Parker Washington (and sometimes Hunter). However, Jacksonville’s roster is not without holes, and has a couple of positions that could use an upgrade before the season begins.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementJosh Edwards of CBS Sports names each AFC team’s biggest remaining offseason priority and believes Jacksonville’s should be improving its linebacker group.Though Edwards mentions a couple of other positions he thinks may be worrisome for the Jaguars, he lands on linebacker as the spot most in need of improvement.”Jacksonville is a candidate for regression after going 13-4 during the regular season. The offensive line worked last season, but a jaguar does not change its spots. Preconceived notions on a player can shift in the short term, but are generally accurate long term. There is a good chance some part of the interior offensive line featuring Ezra Cleveland, Robert Hainsey and Patrick Mekari fails this season.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement”The coaching staff is excited about the running backs despite the loss of Travis Etienne. They may not have a feature back, but the collection of skill sets should allow them to execute the offense.”The defensive interior must improve. Ventrell Miller is unproven at linebacker, but will be asked to take on a larger role in the absence of Devin Lloyd.”Calling the Jaguars “a candidate for regression” seems a bit harsh, as every NFL roster could use an upgrade somewhere. However, Edwards is right to worry about Miller performing at the level Lloyd did in 2025.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementLuckily for Jacksonville, the perfect free agent is still unsigned. That would be Bobby Wagner, who has been called a perfect fit for the Jaguars all offseason.Even at 36 years old, Wagner is still playing at an extremely high level. He was recently ranked 81st in the NFL’s top-100 players list, and would be a terrific addition for Jacksonville. If signed, Wagner could take Jacksonville’s already-strong defense to new heights.Even if Wagner would make the Jaguars better, assuming that Miller won’t be good enough as a starter is unfair. He has played well in
