Ange Postecoglou will join Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr next season after signing a contract to become the club’s new manager. The Australian coach, aged 60, has been out of management since his dismissal at Nottingham Forest after a short stint late last season, though he has recently dipped into punditry as part of ITV’s lineup for the 2026 World Cup. He is set to move to the Saudi Pro League, replacing Jorge Jesus, who left Al-Nassr immediately after guiding them to the league title. Postecoglou has agreed a two-year deal, meaning he could be on the touchline if Ronaldo reaches the 1,000-goal milestone. Ronaldo is currently on 976 goals after scoring a penalty to help Portugal beat Croatia and reach the World Cup last 16.
Al-Nassr announced the appointment with a nod to Postecoglou’s past quip from his time at Nottingham Forest: “At all my previous clubs, it ends the same. With me and a trophy.” The line has become infamous among supporters. While Postecoglou did not maintain Forest’s trophy hopes, he does carry a notable collection of honours from his spells at Celtic and Tottenham.
At Celtic, he delivered a domestic double in 2021/22 and then led the club to a treble the following season. At Tottenham, he secured Europa League glory in 2025, the club’s first trophy in several years, following a disappointing league finish that season. His tenure in England ended shortly after that success, with Tottenham appointing new leadership the following term.
Before his moves to England, Postecoglou enjoyed a substantial spell with Australia, overseeing four years in charge and guiding the Socceroos to the 2014 World Cup and lifting Asian Cup glory in 2015. His first match for Al-Nassr, whose squad also features Sadio Mane, Joao Felix and Kingsley Coman, will be the King of Cup Champions Clash against Diriyah on August 16.
