Interim manager Andy Green made it clear he wanted to head back to the front office. Beltran is a team great who is respected for his baseball knowledge throughout MLB, and he is already part of the organization as a special assistant in the front office.However, last week the 49-year-old revealed that he preferred to hold on to his current gig instead of moving to the dugout. Then Green surprised many when he changed course and accepted a three-year deal to become the club’s full-time skipper on Tuesday.While he would not be the new manager, as many Mets fans hoped, there was another opening that he seemed like a good fit for: General manager. On Wednesday, The Athletic’s Will Sammon reported that the “Mets are moving toward hiring Derek Falvey to a role within their front office.” Mets owner Steve Cohen revealed recently plans to add more impact execs to the front office. Falvey worked with David Stearns while they were together in Cleveland from 2011 to 2012. He also oversaw the Minnesota Twins’ roster building from 2017 to 2026, and Sammon claims he will hold a “significant role” in the Mets’ decision-making process.While he is not specificially being named as the new GM, it sure seems like he is going to have very GM-like position in the front office.
