I was there through the humiliation of League One. I was there for every home game through successive promotion campaigns and campaigns when we missed out. Now we have all the plastic supporters turning back up when the Premier League, and now Europe, beckons. These supporters’ memberships seem primarily aimed at those who don’t have season tickets to enter a ballot for league home tickets and cup home games. That is after the season ticket-holders have had first refusal on cup games. The way I see it, this is rewarding the loyalty of the season ticket-holders who have been there through the hard times and asking those who just want to be here when things are going well to put their money where their mouth is.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementMartin: For a fan who has supported the club for over 50 years, it doesn’t seem very fair to me.Thomas: I’m a massive Sunderland supporter and have been a season ticket-holder in the past, but now, because of family and work commitments, I only get to one or two games a year. Having to pay £48 to be able to get these tickets feels like a bit of a kick in the teeth, cost upon cost. It’s not as if the Stadium of Light will be flooded with tourists trying to get tickets. Even with Premier League football, the bulk of those buying tickets will be genuine fans. I will get the membership to guarantee getting those couple of tickets, but will do so begrudgingly.Peter: As a long-term season ticket-holder, I haven’t been able to get to away games over the past four years. I have tried but, without points, tickets were impossible to get hold of. At least this gives me a slim chance.Peter: Not sure I see any benefits for season ticket-holders.
