Arizona men’s basketball makes top 6 for 5-star 2027 center Darrius Wabbington

Arizona has finalized its 2026-27 roster, setting the stage for the Wildcats to begin planning how they’ll shape the team a year later as they replace players who were drafted, graduated, or transferred. A potential cornerstone of that reload could be on the radar as a top target: 5-star center Darrius Wabbington has named Arizona among his top six programs, along with Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, and Texas.
Wabbington, a 6-foot-11, 245-pound prospect ranked as the No. 15 overall player in the Class of 2027 by 247Sports (the second-best center and the fourth-ranked player from Arizona), attends Sunnyslope High School in Phoenix, which won the Open State Championship in March. He is slated to visit Arizona for the Red-Blue Showcase in late September, with ongoing contact between him and the program in the meantime. “Their staff has been coming to a lot of my stuff,” Wabbington told 247Sports’ Brandon Jenkins. “I have been down there and have seen what they do. I see the plan that they have for me and I’m really interested. They want to play me at the four and they love my size, strength, and skillset.”
He also has visits lined up for Louisville on September 11 and Texas on October 9, with no firm commitment date yet. Class of 2027 signees can begin signing in November. “I will prioritize the relationships,” Wabbington said. “That is the real big part that is really important to me. The style of play and the school are also really important to me. I want to fit the program and play in an atmosphere where they have a lot of people at the games and fans who are really supportive.”
Wabbington is one of seven players the Wildcats have offered in the 2027 class, including fellow in-state prospect Adan Diggs, a 5-star guard from Goodyear Millennium—where incoming freshman Cameron Holmes played—who is ranked No. 2 overall.
