​Longtime Army football coach Jeff Monken is sticking around for the foreseeable future.On Thursday, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Monken has agreed to a five-year contract extension with the Black Knights. Monken is entering his 13th season at West Point this fall, and he’s the second-winningest coach in program history. He holds an 89-63 record, making him the first Army coach with a winning record since Jim Young, who last coached the team in 1990.Monken’s new deal reportedly includes a pay raise and comes amid a time of increased investment in the football program. The academy also put $170 million into a renovation project for Michie Stadium this offseason.The 59-year-old has finished above .500 in seven of his 12 seasons, and he’s won double-digit games three times. The high watermark of Monken’s tenure at Army came in 2024, when the Black Knights finished 12-2 and won the American championship in their first season as a member of the conference.He has also had success against Army’s rivals, winning six of the last 10 against Navy and 13 of the last 19 against Navy and Air Force. He has also reached a bowl game in seven of the last 10 years.The service academies are among the toughest jobs in the FBS, but Monken has made consistent success look easy at West Point.
