​Arsenal have sealed a deal to sign Christos Tzolis in a transaction valued at €40 million (£34 million), with both clubs formalising the agreement. Brugge have cleared him to travel for a medical, paving the way for the Greece winger to become Mikel Arteta’s new attacker and to put pen to paper on a long-term contract at the Emirates.
Tzolis’ resolve was decisive in the negotiations. Fabrizio Romano reports that the winger made Arsenal his sole priority, turning down approaches from clubs in Italy and Germany. That firm stance helped accelerate discussions in the Gunners’ favour. There was minimal crunching of numbers on the price tag as well; Brugge stood by their €40 million valuation, and Arsenal simply agreed. David Ornstein confirms that the paperwork has now been signed between the two clubs.
The 24-year-old arrives at Arsenal as a proven goalscorer, having tallied 22 goals and contributed 29 assists across all competitions last season, establishing himself as one of Belgium’s standout performers. Primarily a left-sided forward, he can also operate effectively as a number 10.
Arsenal had been monitoring Tzolis closely before moving, with sporting director Andrea Berta driving the deal, according to BBC Sport. Berta reportedly sent his assistant Maurizio Micheli to assess Tzolis during Greece’s recent match against Sweden, providing the scouting input that helped push the transfer forward.
His arrival also serves to address a departure. Tzolis replaces Leandro Trossard, who completed an €18 million move to Besiktas this week. Arsenal’s left-wing options struggled to deliver in the previous season, contributing only 10 Premier League goals, a shortfall Arteta is eager to rectify.
Tzolis also arrives with familiarity of English football. He previously joined Norwich from PAOK in 2021, with later spells at Fortuna Dusseldorf and Twente, before rebuilding his career in Belgium after that challenging period at Carrow Road.
This signing marks Arsenal’s third addition of the summer. Following the arrival of goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer from Leeds and the permanent transfer of Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen, Tzolis is the latest new piece. Yet the Gunners are far from done, as they continue to push a deal for Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, and remain prioritised on securing Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez as a forward target.
