Ashton Daniels set a program record with five rushing touchdowns as Florida State football beat Virginia 38-7 on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Doak Campbell Stadium.FSU outgained the Cavaliers 465-to-205, and Daniels accounted for 319 total yards alongside his five scores, the most by a quarterback in program history. He finished the night 12-for-19 passing for 183 yards, with an interception, while he rushed for 136 yards.The Cavaliers struck first with a seven-play, 63-yard scoring drive in the first quarter, but from that moment on, the Seminoles (3-2, 1-1 ACC) outscored the Cavaliers 38-0. Here are three takeaways from the Seminoles’ rout of Virginia.FSU’s second-quarter surge changed the gameFSU entered the second quarter trailing 7-0, with UVA outgaining the team 101-38 in the opening 15 minutes. The Seminoles ended the half outgaining the Cavaliers 256-89, holding the visitors to -12 yards and gaining 218 yards of offense with 17 points scored. It was a dramatic flip of momentum, and one that the Seminoles rode to the biggest win of the season. FSU sacked Beau Pribula three times in the quarter, including back-to-back sacks from Kevin Wynn and Mandrell Desir that turned 2nd and 9 into 4th and 29 in two plays. Daniels went 6-of-7 for 139 yards in the quarter, and he scored twice on the ground. Gabe Panikowski added a field goal to push FSU ahead 17-7 at halftime, and the Seminoles never looked back. A Seminole sack party The three second-quarter sacks were not an aberration, as the Seminoles finished the game with 10, including three more in the third quarter and four in the fourth. Edge rusher Rylan Kennedy recorded two, a team high.FSU’s defensive line struggled in the opening period, but came alive in the second quarter. It wasn’t just the sacks; the line had active hands, deflecting multiple passes and quickly rallying to the football on rush attempts, which was reflected in Virginia’s 37 rushing yards.It helped lead to the -12 yards Virginia recorded in the second quarter, and while the visitors’ offense ticked up in production in the second half, the Seminoles defense remained stout, allowing only 116 yards of total offense.Linebacker Chris Jones was a standout and he finished with six total tackles, including 1.5 sacks and 1.5 TFLs, and he made an impressive stop on a fourth-and-short that sparked a scoring drive early in the second half.Ashton Daniels’ record day leads FSU football’s offense The Seminoles recorded more than 400 yards of offense for a third straight game, and Daniels gashed Virginia with his 183 passing yards and 136 yards on the ground.It was a standout day for the run game, which recorded 282 yards of offense. Running back Ousmane Kromah extended his streak of running for 80 or more yards to five games, and Tre Wisner rushed for 46 yards on nine attempts. While the ground game was the focal point of the offense, Wisner recorded 60 receiving yards and Micahi Danzy led the receivers with 70 yards on four catches.Florida State
