After taking Game 1 on Tuesday, the Sox have stormed out of the gate yet again by scoring four runs in the top of the first inning against one of the best right-handed pitchers in the AL, Hunter Brown.Brown didn’t even make it out of the first, as manager Joe Espada removed him after he allowed the bases loaded after the four runs had already scored. The @WhiteSox score three more runs in Houston 😳Watch sports LIVE with fuboTV (free trial)They’re up 4-0 in the 1st! pic.twitter.com/VdScrGKbBk— MLB (@MLB) September 30, 2026It’s shocking to see Brown struggle, but his defense didn’t help him out either. Runs scored because of poor defense being played in front of a sold-out home crowd. In an injury-riddled season, Brown still managed to finish with an ERA of 3.19 and a 1.27 WHIP. He finished 80th in the league with 124 strikeouts. You expect him to bounce back against the Cleveland Guardians if given the chance. The Astros would need to survive on Wednesday while taking Game 3 on Thursday.Houston is slowly creeping back in this ballgame. Trailing 4-0 heading into the bottom of the first, Jeremy Peña smashed a solo home run to lead off the inning. Young slugger Cam Smith followed in the second with an absolute bomb, 440 feet to left field, which may have left the ballpark. The Astros trail 4-2 in the 3rd inning, with lots of baseball left to be played. The bullpen will be one to watch for the Astros. If Peter Lambert and the rest of the guys can keep the Sox at four runs, or maybe just five at most, Houston will be thrilled with that. They know they have the talent to score at least 2-3 runs to potentially tie or win this game and keep their season alive.Stay tuned to see if Houston bounces back and takes the game, or if Chicago will take the series and head to Cleveland for an AL Central battle for the ALDS.Related: How Astros manager Joe Espada reacted to emerging tension between players, fansRelated: What Phillies, Astros, Red Sox, Cubs must do to save season in Wild Card Series Game 2
