Just getting into the bracket gives the Astros a chance, though, and that’s all they can ask for at the end of the season. Yordan Alvarez remains the centerpiece for the Astros after racking up something of a triple crown by leading MLB in batting average (.316), on-base percentage (.432) and slugging percentage (.604), not to mention OPS+ (192) and several other advanced stats. The White Sox will need to keep him in check as they return to the postseason for the first time since a four-game loss to Houston in the 2021 Division Series. They won’t be satisfied with just being here, though, even with this run coming on the heels of three consecutive seasons with more than 100 losses. A lineup full of fresh faces like Miguel Vargas (33 HR, 93 RBIs, 22 SB) and Munetaka Murakami (35 HR, .826 OPS) will get a turn on the national stage in this series and feel good about its chances against the weakest of division champs. It should be a fascinating few days in Houston.
