Barcelona president Joan Laporta addresses Ferran Torres future in the wake of PSG links: ‘I’ve heard about it’

Barcelona’s transfer news continues to be shrouded in uncertainty surrounding Ferran Torres, as Paris Saint-Germain have emerged as serious admirers of the Spain forward. The situation has gained momentum amid Barcelona’s chase for Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi, a pursuit that could shape Hansi Flick’s attacking options ahead of the new season. With Torres under contract until 2027 but renewal talks stalling, questions about his future at the club have intensified.
As reported previously, PSG believe this could be an opportune moment to test Barcelona’s resolve, particularly given the Catalan club’s dilemma over one of their most experienced forwards. The French champions remain keen on adding Ferran Torres but have stated they do not intend to meet Barcelona’s asking price in full. Instead, Paris believe the winger’s contract situation gives them leverage to negotiate a lower fee. The transfer chatter has PSG aligned with the notion that Torres could become a more accessible target if Barcelona are prepared to move, while Barcelona’s own stance appears to be calibrating between retention and sale.
Barcelona are reportedly seeking around €50 million for Ferran Torres, but PSG are anticipated to lodge an opening bid nearer €40 million. If negotiations proceed, the final offer could potentially dip further, making the Catalan club’s asking price for Torres one of the summer’s most debated figures. At the same time, Barcelona are increasingly open to the possibility of selling, given the stall in contract renewal talks and the strategic opportunity to maximize value from Torres in this window.
With Torres’ contract at a pivotal stage and renewal progress stagnant, Barcelona may view this transfer window as their best chance to capitalise on his market value. During his public appearances at the FIFA Club World Cup, Barcelona president Joan Laporta was pressed on PSG’s growing interest in Ferran Torres. While stopping short of confirming any negotiations, Laporta underscored that Torres remains an important player for the club. “I’ve heard something about it, but we have no confirmation. He’s a Barça player, one of the 14 players we’ve had here. Ferran is also doing very well; every time he comes on, he’s dangerous. He gave that pass to Merino, which was excellent,” Laporta remarked, as reported by Mundo Deportivo. “Anyway, we have great players here at the World Cup, and that’s why I’m here too,” he added.
Although Laporta’s comments did not provide a fresh update on Ferran Torres’s contract, they signalled that Barcelona are not rushing to make a public decision while the transfer window remains open. The situation is further complicated by Barcelona’s ongoing interest in Adeyemi and the broader strategic consideration of how to balance immediate reinforcements with long-term squad planning. In this context, Ferran Torres remains a central figure in Barcelona’s transfer narrative, with PSG’s advances highlighting the fragility of any long-term outcome and the potential for a negotiated settlement that could reshape Barcelona’s attacking options for the season ahead. The dynamic remains fluid, and observers will be watching closely how Barcelona navigates the interplay between contract negotiations, market value, and the club’s broader transfer ambitions in the days to come.
