Bayern still in hunt to sign defender after Forest bid rejected

Bayern Munich remain in the hunt for Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read, with the 20-year-old Dutch defender continuing to attract attention from the German champions. Read has been a prominent transfer target for several months, and his potential move has also drawn interest from a number of Premier League clubs. Nottingham Forest, in particular, are keen to bolster their options at right-back and have identified Read as a viable candidate to reinforce their squad. According to Fabrizio Romano, Forest submitted an official bid of €17.5 million to Feyenoord for Read. Feyenoord, however, quickly dismissed the offer as it fell well short of their valuation for the teenager.
Forest’s willingness to spend comes after a summer of substantial revenue from the sale of Ettiot Anderson for £116 million, and all eyes will be on whether the Premier League side will lodge another provocative bid that could tempt Feyenoord to part with their academy product. Read has already shown his capabilities at a high level, making 54 appearances for Feyenoord, including 20 in the previous season, and contributing two goals along the way.
On the other side of the eurozone transfer table, Christian Falk, writing for CFBayern Insider, notes that Bayern Munich still maintain interest in Read, though he is not currently a top priority. The Bild journalist emphasizes that Read remains on Bayern’s short list of potential targets, and the club could pivot to sign him if they decide to offload players such as Sacha Boey to free up space and resources. Bayern’s defensive depth at right-back is notably robust, with Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanisic standing as key alternatives to Read. In addition, Bayern still have Boey in the squad, though his future with the club has been uncertain.
Boey spent the January window of 2026 on loan at Galatasaray, a move that included an option for Galatasaray to sign him permanently for €15 million. So far, Galatasaray has not moved to activate that option, which leaves Bayern in a position where they may need to explore possible buyers or alternative plans for Boey should he remain part of their long-term strategic framework. Bayern have also strengthened their options this summer by signing Nathaniel Brown, who, while primarily a left-back, is versatile enough to operate at right-back when required.
In the current market, Read’s potential switch to Bayern would fit a broader pattern of top clubs reviewing young, developing talents who can provide long-term value. For Bayern, Read would represent a player with pace, technical ability, and the capacity to compete at the highest level, aligning with the club’s philosophy of nurturing young talent for sustained success. Whether Read finally makes the leap to Bayern or remains a Feyenoord mainstay or secures a move elsewhere, his trajectory remains one of the more intriguing transfer narratives in European football at the moment. The coming weeks will be crucial as clubs weigh their options, assess valuation, and decide whether to make a concrete bid that could alter the defensive landscape of Europe’s elite teams.
