In an interview with The New York Times, Poles noted that Johnson’s strong offseason approach kept the organization from becoming too relaxed after last year’s surprising postseason success. This culture of relentless accountability was evident on Tuesday when Johnson officially named Braxton Jones as the starting left tackle for Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers. While Jones received the initial assignment to protect Caleb Williams’ blindside, Johnson made it clear that nothing is guaranteed for any player on his roster.According to a report from ESPN, Johnson refused to commit to Jones for the long term, reminding the veteran lineman that performance on a daily basis will determine playing time. “Every position is being evaluated,” Johnson stated. “I just talked to the skill players on offense. Right now, I can’t say who will be our receivers when we line up in certain personnel groups. It’s early. By the time we get to Friday and Saturday, that’s when we’ll finalize those decisions. They’ve earned that during the course of the week. It’s no different for the offensive line.”Watch sports LIVE with fuboTV (free trial)Johnson stressed that Tuesday’s depth charts mean little if performance standards falter before Sunday. “Just because I’m saying this on Tuesday doesn’t mean it will stay the same,” Johnson warned. “Braxton has to earn his place, just like all the players who will be active on game day. They have to show us that they deserve to be out there.”This push for week-to-week perfection also applies to his young quarterback. While Johnson encourages the offensive line to compete daily, he is also challenging Williams to improve his off-script efficiency. According to The Athletic’s Dan Wiederer, Johnson is using tape of Aaron Rodgers to set the benchmark for Williams, emphasizing Rodgers’ exceptional pocket mobility and downfield urgency as the ideal for him to follow in his second year.Related: Bears’ Caleb Williams makes confession on ‘second-guessing’ Ben Johnson that fans won’t have to worry about anymoreRelated: Ben Johnson obsesses over Caleb Williams problem that Aaron Rodgers will help fix
