Bears rising star Colston Loveland ranked among NFL’s best tight ends

The Chicago Bears benefited greatly from a strong rookie class last season, with first-rounder Colston Loveland emerging as aprimary weapon in the passing game and signaling his potential to become a premier playmaker in the NFL. Loveland, selected 10th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, led the Bears in receptions with 58 and receiving yards with 713, and he was tied for the team lead with six touchdowns. His impact didn’t fully surface right away, as he started producing consistently a few weeks into the season.
In the last 12 games of the regular season and across two postseason games, Loveland tallied 59 catches for 790 yards and six touchdowns. He also set an NFL rookie postseason record by posting 193 receiving yards over two playoff games. This breakout helped solidify his standing as one of the league’s most promising young weapons and underscored why he drew significant attention at the end of the season.
It’s not surprising that Loveland earned a spot on ESPN’s ranking of the top tight ends in the NFL, a list compiled with input from coaches and executives across the league. He sits at No. 7, leaving room for even more growth in 2026. ESPN’s panel was clear about Loveland’s potential: “He’s unbelievable,” said one NFL coordinator, praising his smooth movement and toughness. Another NFL personnel evaluator projected, “Loveland could be the Bears’ top receiver next year, with more two- or three-tight end formations in Chicago.”
The list includes six players who ranked ahead of Loveland: Brock Bowers of Las Vegas, Trey McBride of Arizona, George Kittle of San Francisco, Sam LaPorta of Detroit, Tyler Warren of Indianapolis, and Tucker Kraft of Green Bay. Yet Loveland’s ascent is a talking point in Chicago as well, given the Bears’ depth at tight end. Although Loveland is the standout, Cole Kmet also received honorable mention, underscoring Chicago’s formidable TE room. “He’s still a quality player who’s friendly for a young quarterback, good in the run game,” an NFL executive said of Kmet. The Bears would benefit from finding ways to deploy both Loveland and Kmet on the field together, leveraging their complementary skill sets.
Chicago’s tight end roster remains one of the league’s strongest, featuring Loveland, Kmet, and third-round rookie Sam Roush. The trio is expected to play pivotal roles in the offense’s continued success in 2026. The combination gives the Bears versatile options in both the passing game and the run game, with Loveland acting as a dynamic receiving threat who can stretch the field and create mismatches for defenses.
As Loveland continues to develop, expectations will be high for him to build on his rookie-year success and to push into the upper echelon of NFL tight ends. The praise from coaches and executives around the league reflects not only his immediate impact but also the potential for sustained excellence as he grows into a central figure in Chicago’s offense. Keep an eye on how the Bears use Loveland in conjunction with Kmet and Roush, as that trio could redefine Chicago’s passing attack and contribute to the team’s competitive trajectory in 2026.
