Beaumont to retire from international cricket

England’s Tammy Beaumont has announced her retirement from international cricket. The 35-year-old will step away after England’s upcoming Test match against India, which begins on Friday. This fixture marks the first women’s Test to be played at Lord’s.
Beaumont made her international debut in 2009 and has represented her country in 11 Tests, 140 ODIs, and 109 T20 internationals. Her 12 ODI centuries stand as a record for England women, and she is one of only two English women—alongside former captain Heather Knight—to have scored international centuries in all three formats.
“Playing for England for nearly 17 years has been the greatest honour,” Beaumont said. “When I fell in love with playing cricket as a young girl, I barely knew that playing cricket for England was an option, and it brings me so much joy to think how many girls and boys have been inspired, this summer especially, and how far the game has come in our country. We’ve always wanted to take the cap forward for the next generation, and the time has come for me to hand over that privilege to the next generation of England players.”
She added that this Lord’s Test, England’s first-ever women’s Test at the ground, felt like the perfect moment to sign off on a career she could never have dreamed would be as special as it has been.
Beaumont also confirmed that she will continue playing domestic cricket. At present, she represents The Blaze and Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred.
More details and updates are expected to follow.
