​There is no shortage of optimism and chatter around Chicago Bears second-year wide receiver Luther Burden III, and his potential as a breakout candidate in the league this season. Burden will get more opportunities to thrive in Chicago’s offense after the team traded away veteran DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills this offseason, and he could compete with Rome Odunze to be the primary pass catcher for quarterback Caleb Williams this season.On Monday, Bears head coach Ben Johnson sat down with Kay Adams of “Up and Adams” and discussed the reality of hype behind Burden. Johnson said that Burden’s route tree is growing as his positioning all over the field, to expand what he can do in his second year of the offense.”It’s a credit to him and how he’s attacked the building ever since he’s got here,” Johnson said. “He’s done a phenomenal job, he’s extremely motivated, he wants to be the best and you see that competitive nature come out every time he hits the grass. We’re just looking to expand his route tree right now, we’re putting him all over the place, he’s inside, he’s outside. We put the pads on today and we want to see the run-blocking come out, he’s a big part of that as well. He’s fearless, whether he’s running inside the numbers or, he’s got deep-ball ability as well. I think it’s a little bit of everything and I think it’s coming together nicely.”Burden has been a hot name among many NFL analysts, whether it be fantasy football, the Bears, or just league-wide coverage looking to identify the next breakout offensive star.
