With training camp just three weeks away, the Green Bay Packers and head coach Matt LaFleur face heightened pressure as stakes rise for the 2026 campaign. LaFleur has led the Packers since 2019, and while the team has enjoyed substantial regular-season success under his guidance, postseason disappointments have followed far too often.
Green Bay’s most recent playoff setback came on the road against the Chicago Bears, when a 21-3 halftime lead dissolved and LaFleur’s team exited the wild-card round, renewing questions about durability in the postseason. Although LaFleur signed a multi-year extension at the end of January, his job security may depend on what unfolds in 2026, particularly if Moton’s projection proves prophetic for the Packers. Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton singled out Green Bay as the division’s last-place finisher in his league-wide forecast, a scenario that would mark a dramatic turn for a team accustomed to competing at a high level.
Moton cited the absence of Parsons in masking coverage issues in the secondary and suggested that a sharp Vikings offense led by Kyler Murray could push Green Bay toward the NFC North basement. The NFC North is a competitive division, with all four teams possessing varying strengths, and coaching and roster depth remain relatively even across the board. If the Packers struggle on defense, particularly against the pass, the unit could falter again in 2026. Outside of Micah Parsons—a standout pass rusher who is still working his way back from a torn ACL and not projected to be ready for Week 1—the defensive front may not be as menacing, leaving the Packers vulnerable to teams that can exploit their secondary gaps.
On offense, questions linger about the receiving corps and the rushing attack. Christian Watson’s role as a true No. 1 receiver remains in question, and if the passing game underperforms, Green Bay will lean more heavily on its ground game to keep drives alive and maintain offensive balance. The potential for a dynamic offensive approach exists, but the health and productivity of the passing attack will significantly influence the team’s overall trajectory in 2026.
A downward shift in 2026 is not beyond the realm of possibility for Green Bay, and finishing last in a tight NFC North is conceivable if the defense remains inconsistent and the offense cannot sustain efficiency. Yet such a downturn could precipitate a critical reckoning for LaFleur and the Packers. Although LaFleur is widely regarded as a competent coach, his track record in the postseason has not delivered a championship, and a missed playoff appearance in 2026 could force Green Bay to reconsider its approach. If that scenario materializes, the franchise might pursue a new direction at the helm in hopes of rekindling championship potential. The question remains: can LaFleur guide the Packers to a Super Bowl win, or does the 2026 season signal a necessary evolution in leadership for Green Bay?
