Just like the previous cycle, the EDGE position again features one of the deepest groups of blue-chip prospects. According to the 2027 Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that consolidates all major recruiting outlets, there are 40 four- and five-star recruits at this position. That tally includes seven five-stars and an additional five top-100 players overall. As of July 12, all 40 EDGE recruits are committed, with commitments spread across 23 different programs. That distribution signals big-time haul potential for several schools at the EDGE.
Rivals’ breakdown of which programs have landed the strongest EDGE classes so far highlights several top names: five-star Zyron Forstall (No. 27 nationally, No. 6 at EDGE), four-star Frederick Ards III (No. 62 nationally, No. 10 at EDGE), and four-star Kaden McCarty (No. 190 nationally, No. 20 at EDGE). Not surprisingly, Texas A&M’s No. 1 class in Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball, and its trio of EDGE commits is among the elite.
In late March, A&M landed Forstall, a New Orleans native who now stars at IMG Academy in Florida. He has long been regarded as one of the premier pass-rushers in the cycle, and that consensus holds ahead of his senior season. The Aggies have been red-hot throughout this cycle, a momentum that extended into the official visit period. Ards III, another Sunshine State standout, kicked off a strong June by announcing his commitment. He sits at No. 7 in Florida. McCarty was one of the early recruiting wins for Mike Elko, pledging in December and maintaining blue-chip status ever since.
Five-star Abraham Sesay (No. 19 nationally, No. 3 at EDGE), four-star Aidan O’Neil (No. 112 nationally, No. 14 at EDGE), and four-star EDGE Jackson Vaughn (No. 184 nationally, No. 19 at EDGE) complete a formidable Notre Dame class that is strong across the board. The Irish’ EDGE group stands out as part of a class that is loaded at nearly every position and reflects Notre Dame’s broad recruiting priorities. Sesay, a standout from Pennsylvania, committed last month, choosing Notre Dame over LSU and Penn State among others. He is one of three five-stars in the class. May’s commitments from O’Neil and Vaughn—both New Jersey products—signal Notre Dame’s emphasis on securing top edge talent from the Northeast. O’Neil and Vaughn sit as the No. 3 and No. 4 players in New Jersey, respectively. Much of Notre Dame’s EDGE strategy involved early relationship-building and heavy attention on visits to South Bend, which helped secure the trio of commitments.
In the realm of SEC and recruiting powerhouses, 4-star Chris Whitehead (No. 52 nationally, No. 8 at EDGE) and 4-star K.J. Green (No. 54 nationally, No. 9 at EDGE) headline LSU’s ten-commit surge of June. Landing both Whitehead and Green has given Lane Kiffin and LSU a strong start to the summer, with both players positioned to climb within the national EDGE rankings as they continue their development. The race to secure top EDGE talent remains intense, with schools leveraging early relationships, high-profile visits, and sustained evaluation to push their cases. As the cycle progresses, the EDGE group’s depth and the strategic distribution of commitments across programs promise to keep this position one of the most-watched areas of national recruiting.
