On Friday morning, the Dallas Stars announced a one-year, $850,000 contract extension for captain Jamie Benn, including performance bonuses: 10 games played: $200,000; 20 games played: $200,000; 40 games played: $200,000; Make the playoffs: $150,000; Each playoff round won: $100,000. If the Stars win the 2027 Stanley Cup, Benn would receive $1.15 million in bonuses and $2 million total. Jamie Benn, signed for 1x$0.8M by DAL, is a veteran offensive winger who produces well relative to his ice time but also takes a high number of penalties and is coming off a challenging postseason. “Jamie’s leadership and commitment to this organization are truly unmatched, and he has helped define our culture,” Stars general manager Jim Nill said in a team statement Friday. “He continues to set the standard on and off the ice, and we’re excited to have him leading our team for another season.” Benn will return for his 18th NHL season in 2026-27, all of which have been with Dallas, and 14 of those seasons have been as captain. He tallied his 400th goal last season and sits just eight points shy of 1,000 for his career (414 goals, 578 assists in 1,252 games). The 36-year-old winger recorded 15 goals and 36 points in 60 games last season, despite recovering from collapsed lung surgery and a concussion. He had a difficult playoff series against Minnesota, posting zero points and a minus-7 rating in six games. Benn is set to return to the Stars for his 18th season.
