Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski scratched from scheduled start on Sunday, will miss the All-Star Game

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski has been scratched from his planned start against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday because of arm fatigue, and he will also miss the All-Star Game on Tuesday night in Philadelphia. Brewers manager Pat Murphy announced the decision Saturday after the NL Central leaders were swept by the Pirates in a doubleheader.
“We’re going to give him some extra rest,” Murphy explained, noting that Misiorowski didn’t recover well from his last outing and that his throwing program was inconsistent today. “He didn’t recover well from his last start, and his throwing program was clunky today, so we’re just going to give him some extra rest.”
Misiorowski said he does not anticipate needing a stint on the injured list and believes he should be ready to pitch after next week’s All-Star break. Milwaukee already has 12 pitchers on the injured list, which underscores the depth challenges the team faces.
“It (stinks) to miss a start and the All-Star Game, but I know it’s the right thing to do in this situation,” Misiorowski said. “My arm is a little tired.”
Misiorowski has been outstanding this season, posting a 10-4 record with a 1.62 ERA across 18 starts. He has accumulated 167 strikeouts over 111 innings and, at 24 years old, leads MLB starting pitchers with an average four-seam fastball velocity of 100.5 mph. He has also reached a notable milestone by throwing a maximum of 670 pitches at or above 100 mph, a figure that stands as a league high.
In the series finale, Misiorowski was slated to oppose fellow All-Star Paul Skenes. Instead, left-hander Robert Gasser will start for the Brewers.
The Brewers’ decision to rest Misiorowski comes as part of a broader effort to manage his workload and ensure he is healthy for the rest of the season. While he will miss the All-Star Game and the Sunday start, the team remains optimistic about his return to the mound following the break and his continued role as a key contributor in Milwaukee’s rotation.
