The first contest of Iowa State’s 2026-27 athletic calendar, an exhibition soccer match versus Minnesota, finished in a 1-1 draw. The recorded attendance was 147.Despite being outshot 13-1 by the Gophers in the opening 45 minutes, the half ended scoreless. Thirteen minutes into the second half, Tenley Senden – the Minnesota 2025 Gatorade Soccer Player of the Year – got the visitors on the scoreboard with a strike to the top right of goal off her left foot. The assist went to Katie Krohn.The Cyclones remained tough defensively and found their breakthrough in the 75th minute as Breezie Brewer, a transfer from Alabama, found the back of the net. The goal was unassisted. Iowa State was outshot 27-3, Minnesota also held a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal. Iowa State committed more fouls, 12-10, and wasn’t caught offside. The Gophers were caught offside twice. Iowa State officially starts the season on Wednesdat, Aug. 12, at Omaha. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.
