Brewers SP Jacob Misiorowski will miss Sunday’s start vs. Paul Skenes, Pirates due to ‘fatigue’

The Milwaukee Brewers will not have ace Jacob Misiorowski on Sunday when they host the Pittsburgh Pirates, as originally scheduled. Manager Pat Murphy announced that Misiorowski “just didn’t bounce back” after his most recent outing and described the issue as fatigue. Scrapping Misiorowski from his upcoming start ahead of the All-Star break will give the young pitcher a little extra time to rest, but it also deprives fans of the anticipated pitching duel with the Pirates. Milwaukee will instead hand the ball to Robert Gasser, who brings a 2-3 record and a 4.15 ERA into Sunday’s game.
On the other side, Pittsburgh will counter with Paul Skenes, who is in his third major league season and comes with a trophy case full of accolades already. Skenes won the National League Rookie of the Year Award in 2024 and captured the NL Cy Young Award in 2025, marking him as one of the game’s premier young arms. Misiorowski, by contrast, has been making his own mark despite missing out on the Rookie of the Year honor last year. The 24-year-old pitcher has already etched his name into MLB history with two notable records: he threw the fastest pitch ever recorded by a starting pitcher, clocking in at 105.5 mph, and he handed the opposition the most 100+ mph pitches in a single game, totaling 57.
Although the Brewers and Pirates are divisional rivals, and a future head-to-head duel between Misiorowski and Skenes seems almost inevitable, Sunday’s game will not feature that matchup. The miscue of Misiorowski’s start also means he will be unavailable for Tuesday’s All-Star Game. Misiorowski was a controversial addition to the NL roster last year, and while the controversy cooled, his performance this season has reinforced his standing as a standout. He posted a 10-4 record with a 1.62 ERA—the lowest in the majors—and he struck out 167 batters in 111 innings, signaling a dominant season that earned him strong consideration for an All-Star nod.
As the season progresses, the Brewers sit at 59-36, leading the National League Central, while the Pirates stand at 48-47, having swept Saturday’s doubleheader to grab the first two games of the three-game set. Sunday’s game will feature Gasser for Milwaukee against Skenes of Pittsburgh, offering fans another chance to watch two of baseball’s brightest young talents in a high-stakes divisional showdown. The absence of Misiorowski from Sunday’s mound visit will be felt by Brewers supporters, but the matchup remains rich with intrigue as both clubs continue their pursuit of playoff positioning and division glory.
