Broncos QB Bo Nix is eligible for a contract extension in 2027

By admin — In News — July 8, 2026

The Denver Broncos extended the contracts of general manager George Paton and head coach Sean Payton this spring, locking in the leadership of the organization through the 2030 season. At the same time, the club’s quarterback is signed through the 2027 campaign, with a potential fifth-year option that could cover the 2028 season. With Paton and Payton secured, quarterback Bo Nix was asked in June whether he would also welcome a long-term deal with the team. “Yeah, I mean, I think that question sort of answers itself,” Nix replied. “I think everyone in the league wants that long-term extension and wants to play for their home team. For me, I love being here. I love where I’m at. I love this team. I’ll play as long as they want to have me.” The answer was clear, though somewhat premature, because Nix is entering only his third NFL season and is not eligible for an extension until 2027. The Broncos will very likely exercise his fifth-year option, and Nix will be a candidate for an extension as soon as next spring.
For now, Nix is concentrating on the 2026 season, carrying a relatively team-friendly cap hit of just over $5 million. That figure will tick up to about $5.9 million in 2027, with a more substantial increase possible if a fifth-year option is exercised in 2028. Any potential long-term contract could then conceivably begin in 2029. In the interim, Denver has the flexibility to strengthen the roster at other positions while Nix operates on a favorable rookie deal. The window to contend for a championship is open now, before cap pressures grow tighter a few seasons down the road.
