Bullpen Implodes as Marlins Thrash Rockies 14-3

By admin — In yahoo — July 1, 2026

Entering this four-game series against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, the Miami Marlins were one of the hottest teams in MLB. But the Rockies’ bullpen did the team few favors on Tuesday night, surrendering nine runs as the Marlins rolled to a 14-3 rout. The win capped a strong month for Miami, while Colorado hoped to kick off a better stretch during their seven-game homestand, a goal that now seems unlikely to begin smoothly for manager Warren Schaeffer.
Tanner Gordon took the loss for the Rockies, dropping to 0-2 on the season. He worked five innings, allowing nine hits and five earned runs, with no walks and four strikeouts—an uphill battle given Colorado’s sputtering offense. For the Marlins, Eury Pérez earned the win to move to 4-6 on the year, pitching 5.1 innings, giving up two hits and one earned run, walking four and striking out eight.
Colorado reliever Seth Halvorsen, just recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque, pitched one inning and allowed four hits and three earned runs, plus a walk and no strikeouts. John Brebbia also had a rough outing, tossing 1.1 innings while surrendering five hits and five earned runs, including two home runs, without a walk but with one strikeout. The loss dropped Colorado to 33-53 overall and 18-24 at home this season, while Miami improved to 46-40 and 18-23 on the road.
Offensively, Miami did most of its damage via the long ball, with Joe Mack delivering a two-run homer in the seventh and Owen Caissie adding a three-run blast in the eighth. Javier Sanoja contributed a three-run homer off Gordon in the third. Monstrous stretches included eight of the Marlins’ 14 runs coming on home runs. For Colorado, Mickey Moniak produced a solo shot in the first inning, which stood as the Rockies’ lone highlight of the night, as the team dropped to 20 games under .500 and extended their losing streak to eight games against Miami. It marked the third time this season Colorado has allowed at least 14 runs in a game, with the last such blow a 19-6 defeat to the Giants on May 31.
The series continues on Wednesday night, with hopes that Colorado can stabilize its bullpen and rekindle its offense. It’s also the final homestand before the All-Star break, with looming distractions from the Giants series at Coors Field on the horizon.
