Burton Albion’s forward Jack Cooper-Love has departed the club to pursue a new challenge with FC Emmen, a team competing in the Dutch Eerste Divisie. The 24-year-old joined the Brewers in July 2024 from Elfsborg, the top-tier Swedish side, and made his mark in a campaign that saw him contribute across several competitions.
During the 2024-25 season in League One, Cooper-Love managed to find the back of the net once in 14 appearances for Burton. His goal came in a period when he also spent time on loan away from the club, heading to De Graafschap in the Netherlands. While with De Graafschap, he struck five goals across 12 outings, showcasing his potential to influence games from the forward position.
Cooper-Love’s journey through the Netherlands continued the following season on loan, as he joined Roda JC for a stint that produced nine goals in 38 matches. This run of form helped to raise his profile and demonstrated his ability to contribute in more demanding leagues, reinforcing why FC Emmen pursued him for a permanent move.
The Swedish striker’s ties to England are notable, as both of his parents are English, which has given his footballing career a cross-border dimension from an early stage. His move to FC Emmen marks the next chapter in a career that has seen him gain experience across multiple European leagues, including Sweden and the Netherlands.
FC Emmen, who secured a 14th-place finish in the Dutch second tier in the 2025-26 season, will now benefit from Cooper-Love’s pace and versatility in the attacking line. The transfer signifies a strategic step for Emmen as they seek to strengthen their squad depth and options in the final third of the pitch.
For Burton Albion, the parting with Cooper-Love represents a move that aligns with their ongoing development and squad reshaping as they aim to balance immediate results with longer-term plans. The club continues to monitor the market for additional opportunities to bolster its attacking options and deliver performances that meet the demands of League One competition.
In reflecting on Cooper-Love’s stint with Burton Albion, it is clear that his tenure encompassed both challenges and opportunities. While his league tally for the 2024-25 season may not fully capture his impact across all competitions and training performances, his experience gained in Dutch leagues during subsequent loan spells added to his overall development as a forward adept at adapting to different tactical setups and levels of intensity.
As Cooper-Love transitions to FC Emmen on a permanent basis, there is optimism that the move will enable him to bring his varied experiences to bear in the Eerste Divisie. Emmen supporters will be curious to see how he translates his time in Sweden and the Dutch system into consistent performances that help lift the club higher in the standings and contribute to a successful campaign in the 2026 season.
The departure also highlights the broader trend of young players seeking opportunities across European leagues to refine their skills and showcase their abilities on bigger stages. For supporters and analysts alike, Cooper-Love’s arc—from a late summer signing in 2024 to a permanent move in 2026—provides a narrative of growth, resilience, and ambition that has characterized his professional journey.
As the transfer window closes and preparations for the new campaign begin, both Burton Albion and FC Emmen will be eyeing how Cooper-Love can integrate swiftly into his new environment. Emmen will hope that his goalscoring instincts and adaptability will translate into tangible results, while Burton will reflect on the experience gained and the potential for future signings who can carry forward the club’s ambitions in League One.
