Practically speaking, Caleb Williams’ return from a hamstring injury in Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons couldn’t have gone any better. The third-year Chicago Bears quarterback was masterful in his first game since Week 2, completing over 83 percent of his passes while averaging nearly 8.5 yards per attempt in a much-needed 31-23 Bears win. The Falcons’ defense had no answer for the star signal-caller. In the process, Williams more than earned the right to channel one of the corniest moments of Kirk Cousins’ (yes, that Kirk Cousins!) career. As it turned out, Williams was unsurprisingly chomping at the bit to sling the ball all over the field during the Bears’ preparation for the Falcons in the week leading up. This, even though he wasn’t officially cleared for action just yet. All he had to do was tell head coach Ben Johnson his intentions before simply walking right back out of his office. More from ESPN’s Courtney Cronin:Midway through the week, [Caleb] Williams had a one-on-one meeting with [Ben] Johnson in which he voiced a desire to open up the passing attack upon his return.”I walked in his office, dapped him up and said, ‘Let’s get this thing going this week,'” Williams said. “I walked out after that.”Williams asked Johnson to open up the Bears’ passing offense, and then he went out and ensured the strategy would shine in one of the best performances of his young career so far. Talk about tremendous confidence in your play and your teammates. The Bears needed Williams back in the lineup not only for his talent, but for his energy and leadership, too.
