How much of the Indianapolis Colts’ 2026 salary cap is allocated to the safety position? For the current season, the league-wide salary cap stands at $301.2 million, and $24.97 million of that total is designated for the Colts’ safeties, according to Over the Cap. When compared with the rest of the league, the Colts rank ninth in safety-related cap spending, and this allocation accounts for 8.3% of the team’s total cap space.
A large portion of the safety cap allocation goes to Cam Bynum, who is in Year 2 of a four-year, $60 million contract. Bynum’s cap hit is $15.01 million, making it the sixth-largest cap hit on the Colts and the seventh-largest among all safeties across the NFL. The remaining safety cap numbers are comparatively modest. AJ Haulcy, Hunter Wohler, and Daniel Scott are all on rookie deals, with Haulcy carrying the largest of these rookie-signed cap hits at $1.287 million for this season.
Jonathan Owens and Juanyeh Thomas each signed one-year deals near the league minimum. Owens’ cap hit is $1.262 million, while Thomas’ is $1.332 million. Trey Washington, Austin Brown, and Ben Nikkel have cap hits at or below $1 million. Overall, the bulk of the Colts’ safety cap commitments centers on Cam Bynum, with the remainder spread across a mix of younger players on rookie contracts and a couple of one-year veterans.
This overview reflects the contract landscape surrounding the Colts’ safety group and highlights Cam Bynum as the centerpiece of the position’s cap expenditure for the 2026 season. The information cited here originated from Colts Wire and Over the Cap’s reporting on the Colts’ safety-related salary cap allocations.
