Another game, another dominant victory for France. After dispatching Morocco 2-0 without breaking much of a sweat, France secured a spot in the semifinals and kept up the relentless push through the FIFA 2026 World Cup tournament. The French are not only by far the best team in this World Cup, but they are also making a strong case for being one of, if not the, best international teams ever. This isn’t a new trend, either. In 2018, France won the World Cup in decisive fashion, and in 2022, they were runners-up after a loss to Argentina. All of that has built toward this moment, where the French are simply tearing through everyone in their path.
France looks strong in every position group, and it seems the only way they’ll lose is if they beat themselves. Can anyone in this tournament slow down or stop France? Probably not, but there are a few possibilities, no matter how slim. On the right day, Argentina, Spain, or England can challenge Les Bleus. On a truly exceptional day, perhaps Norway could suffocate France and seize a rare upset through opportunism. Otherwise, it would take a perfect performance on a perfect day for France to falter— and it doesn’t appear Didier Deschamps’ squad is wired for such a collapse.
If you admire greatness, you’re witnessing it. If you enjoy watching talent cohere into one unified force, you’re seeing it up close. If you recoil at dynasties, well, you’re stuck in the middle of one. The level of cohesion, depth, and execution is undeniable, and the trajectory suggests France is only sharpening their edge as the tournament advances. The questions now aren’t about whether they’ll triumph again, but how many times they’ll prove the doubters wrong and solidify their position among football’s all-time greats.
