Seattle MarinersWhile on his first trip to the Pacific Northwest region, former Canton Eagle Ace Reese received a $3.5 million signing bonus as he joins the Seattle Mariners.Reese, 21, a 2023 Canton High School graduate, was selected by the Seattle Mariners with the 24th overall pick in the first round of the 2026 MLB Draft. Sources told MLB.com’s Daniel Kramer that Reese agreed to the signing bonus, which is below slot value ($3,818,700). Reese ranked the No. 18 prospect in this year’s draft by MLB Pipeline. He was also the highest-ranked prospect at third base.”It’s a dream come true,” Reese told MLB.com about joining the Mariners. “You dream it your whole life.”After graduating from Canton, Reese initially continued his baseball career at the University of Houston before he transferred to Mississippi State University after his freshman year. Last season at Mississippi State, Reese hit .336 with 24 bombs, 23 doubles, 74 RBIs and 73 runs scored. And the season before that, he had .352, 21 homers and 66 RBIs.In Reese’s senior year at Canton, he hit .477, totaling 42 hits and 40 RBIs after a junior season in which he batted .542 with 43 hits and 43 RBIs.
