It was expected that OG Matt Pryor would be one since RG Isaiah Adams is ruled out, and the second guy would be RB Evan Hull in order to give the roster three healthy bodies in case Jeremiyah Love can’t go or becomes very limited. Instead, the Cardinals’ coaching staff only brought up CB Kalen King. This makes sense because both Garrett Williams and Rabbit Taylor-Demerson are out. This means Arizona will only have three running backs available for Los Angeles: Tyler Allgeier, Love, and Bam Knight. What does this mean for Love? Earlier this week, head coach Mike LaFleur stated the Love was “trending well” towards being able to play in the Week 1 matchup. He was still nursing that high ankle sprain as of last weekend, but returned to practice this week. In all likelihood, Love will play. Not bringing up Hull pretty much says it all. Officially, Love will be listed as “questionable.” LaFleur plans to use a split backfield alongside Allgeier and Bam Knight, meaning Love’s snaps may be managed in his debut.Love appears to be closer to recovery, and the team has insisted all along that it is a minor injury. LaFleur is saying that playing the rookie will be a game-time decision. And if that still rings true, do the Cardinals want to go into this game with only two healthy backs? Inactives for Sunday will be 90 minutes ahead of kickoff at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. For the Cardinals fanbase, it would be a bummer if Love doesn’t play. Part of the excitement for the season surrounds the rookie running back and what he can do at the NFL level. Just remember back in April prior to the NFL draft, the list of needs for Arizona did not include the running back group. With James Conner and Trey Benson on the mend, the thought process was that if each of these two could recover and come back healthy, the Cardinals should have used that #3 overall pick on a pass rusher or an offensive lineman. And Love isn’t damaged, mind you. It’s like playing basketball, and you turn your ankle coming down from a rebound. It will heal. But here’s a question: Should the Cardinals be playing him in the opener?If the coaches’ decision comes down to just prior to kickoff, maybe a little more time to heal should be in order? Plus, the offensive line still isn’t right. The right guard spot will be manned by Jon Gaines, the third guy to be inserted as the starter for this position. If the line is suspect, maybe just kick the can on Love and let him wait it
