CBS reporter names Kentucky’s most important player this season

The 2026-27 Kentucky Wildcats basketball team is mostly complete. They have one roster spot open, but don’t necessarily plan to fill it unless the right fit comes along. It’s a roster with a lot of talent, and a lot to prove after a disappointing season last year.Kentucky’s biggest addition this offseason was sharpshooting forward Milan Momcilovic. He was rated by many as the best player available in the transfer portal, and is an already proven star. However, according to CBS Sports analyst Isaac Trotter, he’s not the most important player on this year’s roster. But Kentucky’s outlook hinges on Diallo. He is UK’s most important player, not Momcilovic. There’s logic in what he says, too. Obviously Momcilovic, along with Malachi Moreno, Alex Wilkins, and others, will be key players who likely will lead the team statistically. A point guard, though, is like a quarterback in football. As Kentucky just found out last year, having an inadequate point guard can ruin a season.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementDiallo will be the primary ball handler for the Wildcats, and be counted on to be the floor general. He sets the tone, and runs the offense. If he struggles to make good decisions, then possessions get wasted, and games will be lost.Diallo has been a solid player in his career, but Mark Pope needs him to be even better this year. Kentucky has struggled with injuries and bad play at point guard in both of his two seasons in Lexington. It’s important for Diallo to change that. This article originally appeared on UK Wildcats Wire: CBS reporter names Kentucky’s most important player this season
