In a dramatic rally that underscored the Bemidji American Legion baseball team’s resilience, the Centaurs extended their winning streak to seven games with a pair of victories against Alexandria, including a dramatic seventh-inning surge in the nightcap. After taking the first game 9-2, Bemidji completed a doubleheader sweep with an 11-7 come-from-behind win that featured a nine-run seventh inning and signs of late-season momentum.
The nightcap looked bleak for Post 14 as they trailed 7-2 with only three outs remaining. But Eli Hoffman ignited the comeback with a two-run double that trimmed the gap to 7-4. Hoffman then scored on Jack Zellmann’s RBI double, and Gunner Ganske tied the game with a two-run double. The decisive frame continued as Ganske scored on Lawson Berg’s RBI single, and Heaton Brodina delivered a sacrifice fly to push Bemidji ahead. James Garrison added an RBI triple, and Leo McKeon’s run-scoring single capped the nine-run eruption, delivering an 11-7 win. Berg, who contributed significantly at the plate, went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and earned the win on the mound, tossing two innings of relief with two hits allowed and three strikeouts. Ganske, meanwhile, had a strong performance on the hill as well, finishing with six innings pitched, allowing just one earned run on five hits while striking out five.
In the opening game, Bemidji built an early lead with a six-run fourth inning that proved decisive. Brennen Brower was the catalyst, driving in two runs with an RBI double and contributing a triple as the leadoff hitter. Jack Zellmann added an RBI on a single, and the Centaurs exploited two passed balls and an error to widen the margin. Brower finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Ganske’s six innings of work kept Alexandria at bay, yielding one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts.
The day’s results moved Bemidji to 15-3 on the season, extending their recent strong run to 15-1 over their last 16 games. The team’s offensive firepower and pitching depth were on full display as they showcased a capacity to respond from behind and finish strong, a combination that bodes well for their continued success this season. The twin-bill effort illustrated Bemidji’s balanced approach: steady starting pitching, timely run production, and a bullpen that could slam the door when needed, particularly in a decisive late rally that turned the nightcap from potential defeat into a road-tested triumph.
