Chiefs Linked To Receiver Facing Multiple Civil Lawsuits

The Kansas City Chiefs have issues at wide receiver, and they’ve been strongly linked to free agent Stefon Diggs, who’s looking for a new home after having an excellent year for the New England Patriots. Diggs bet on himself, and the 32-year old receiver has been talking himself up in the hopes of getting a lucrative new deal.”My opinion, I can compete with anybody,” Diggs said in an ESPN report that referenced a video Diggs posted last week to his YouTube channel. “But take those [top wide receivers] as your 1s, right? You can’t name a No. 2 better than me.”AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementDiggs also claimed that there are only seven “real 1s” in the league, but he also comes with issues. According to a report from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Diggs is also facing a series of civil lawsuits that will give many teams pause, although the Chiefs’ track record suggests that they migth not be one of them. The details of the lawsuits tell a tawdry tale. Florio cited a report from TMZ that stated that stated that “a man named Nigel King has sued Diggs for falsely claiming King stole a Ferrari — and for allegedly having Diggs’s friends attack him.”The incident happened back in 2024, but a series of delays resulted, and Florio added that this should “set the stage” for the litigation to now unfold. The other lawsuit centers on an incident that happened in November of last year, when Diggs “sued a man named Christopher Griffith for falsely claiming Diggs had drugged and sexually assaulted him,” according to Florio. Griffith filed a counterclaim alleging that Diggs sexually assaulted him in 2023, and while Diggs has denied the accusation, the back and forth has continued, and the case hasn’t been settled or dismissed.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementOn the field, at least five unnamed teams have reportedly “checked in” on Diggs, who had 1,013 receiving yards in his first season with New England, and there’s a strong possibility that the Chiefs were one of them.Diggs also established a strong connection with Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, which would be a big part of the attraction for the Chiefs if they chose to sign him. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes could use the kind of reliability Diggs would provide, as long as they could deal with the off-field baggage that would come with Diggs. The Chiefs have been talking up Xavier Worthy as the answer at receiver, but if they are going to make a move it needs to happen soon, with training camps around the league set to open later this month.
