Coachella Valley Firebirds 2026-27 schedule released

The American Hockey League has released the Coachella Valley Firebirds’ schedule for the 2026-27 season, marking the team’s fifth year in franchise history. The slate mirrors the first four seasons in structure, featuring 72 games with 36 at home, and the vast majority of contests against the other nine teams in the Pacific Division. The season will begin a week earlier than usual on October 2 and will conclude on April 10. A link to view the full schedule on the team’s website is available.
One notable update involves start times for midweek home games, which have moved back to 7:00 p.m. Previously, Monday through Thursday games started at 6:30 p.m. This year, with the exception of Saturdays and Sundays, all home games will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Three quick takeaways from the initial look at the Firebirds’ slate, as they pursue a Calder Cup playoff berth for the fifth consecutive year, followed by the complete schedule: The Firebirds will venture outside the Pacific Division for only one opponent, and that opponent is a familiar foe in the Dallas Stars. Of the 32 teams in the AHL, the Firebirds have previously faced just 14; that number will not grow during the regular season. While understandable given travel budgets, it raises the question of whether an East vs. West two-year interdivisional series could provide broader exposure—perhaps hosting Charlotte this year and visiting Charlotte the following year—so the Firebirds and the league meet more of the broader AHL landscape.
There is also a fresh element in the league this season: Hamilton introduces a new AHL franchise, the Hamilton Hammers, who will replace the Bridgeport Islanders. The Hammers, based in Hamilton, Ontario, will operate as the Islanders’ affiliate but will compete in the North Division, while Bridgeport had played in the Atlantic Division.
An early focus on rivalry: The Firebirds will get an early glance at their I-10 corridor rivals, with three of the first four games of the season against the Ontario Reign. This contrasts with last season, when Ontario did not appear until January 3.
A late, road-heavy finish: If the Firebirds are aiming for the Pacific Division crown or favorable playoff positioning, the schedule does not offer much relief toward the end. The team closes with four consecutive road games, and seven of the final ten contests are on the road.
Birds and Eagles: In a notable scheduling quirk, the Firebirds face the Colorado Eagles six times in eight games, including four consecutive meetings in February. Of the 11 games played in that month, more than half come against Colorado.
The 36 home games are distributed as follows: 11 on Fridays, nine on Wednesdays, seven on Sundays, and six on Saturdays. The full schedule is available on the Firebirds’ official site for fans planning their season.
