​Between now and training camp, we will be examining the Indianapolis Colts’ full 90-man roster, previewing each player along the way. Next up is linebacker West Weeks, who wears No. 47. He stands 6-1 and weighs 230 pounds, entering the league as a 23-year-old rookie from LSU. The Colts signed Weeks as an undrafted free agent following the 2026 NFL draft.
The 2025 season marked Weeks’ first full year as a starter. He logged 564 snaps, proving effective as a blitzer by recording 13 pressures and three sacks. Weeks totaled 66 tackles with 11 misses, and in coverage he surrendered 9.1 yards per catch to opposing receivers. In addition to his defensive responsibilities, Weeks has built a substantial résumé as a special teams contributor, accumulating 454 career snaps and participating in five of the six possible phases.
“West, I know for a fact he’s going to make an impact on special teams because he’s big and fast, and he’s done that before. He’s looked good out here,” said assistant general manager Ed Dodds. “I mean, he’s moving even better out here than he did on LSU tape.” Weeks’ proven ability on special teams could be the key to earning a roster spot. On defense, barring a rash of injuries, the expectation isn’t that he’ll become a major contributor right away. What Weeks can offer immediately is value on teams, which is where he can differentiate himself from the competition.
That said, Weeks isn’t without competition. There are players on the depth chart who could make a push for reps. Along with CJ Allen, Weeks has seen Bryce Boettcher, Akeem Davis-Gaither, and Jaylon Carlies receive reps with the starting defense during offseason programs. Austin Ajiake has demonstrated his value on special teams, and fellow undrafted free agent Tahj Chambers brings a strong college background in special-teams experience as well.
Adding to the challenge is last season’s roster construction. The Colts kept only four linebackers on the initial 53-man roster, which is fewer than many teams typically carry. It seems plausible that Allen, Davis-Gaither, and Boettcher are roster locks, and Carlies appears likely to make the team as well. That could leave just one open spot at linebacker, meaning Weeks will have to outshine several capable peers to secure a place on the final 53-man roster.
