​The Washington Commanders are not in a great spot. They’re 0-2. Their quarterback is hurt. Their coach is taking some serious flak.  What comes next? How will they respond? That’s the unwelcome situation that we’ve got, and Washington must find a way to respond. All that sounds so ominous, doesn’t it? There’s so much within the details here, though, that we’ll parse through and try to prep fans for what comes next in this Commanders mailbag. We don’t need a long intro to your questions, do we? Let’s get to them right here, right now: What’s our backup QB situation looking like? We know Hartman hasn’t, nor should he be considered an option. I’m fine with AK being the next man up, but is the team? QB3? Vet or youngster? — jdawgaz Athan Kaliakmanis is the guy right now. He earned the No. 3 job and should be the now second in command. We’re not going back to Sam Hartman in a panic. I also don’t think it’s prudent to go out and sign a veteran off the street who doesn’t know the system. That smells of panic, too. Kaliakmanis would be the best possible backup at this point, thought we’re talking about real bummer scenarios if he ends up making it into a game.  So… was Joe Whitt really the problem??? — Redskinrex I wasn’t around at that time, but I still answer the question. Yes. The Commanders needed a new defensive direction and they got it with Daronte Jones. I don’t think the scheme is issue. I’m not even sure it’s the general execution. It’s the explosives that are the problem. The Washington secondary was always going to be suspect and the longer the front doesn’t get pressure, the more the Commanders feel vulnerable in the backfield.  I think Dan Quinn did the right thing in letting his ego (and his system) go in an effort to try something new. That was a positive impulse that he had. Jones’ scheme is going to be fine. This isn’t a time to panic. It’s s time to be resolute about the scheme and the decision to choose a bold play caller.  What O linemen are available that could possibly help? Especially a LT that would allow Coleman to move back to LG. Same with center, but at least if Coleman could move back to LG it might help Allegretti assuming Comi can bounce back. — WillThomas Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said that Sam Cosmi is still in the concussion protocol, and that Matt Gulbin might be the guy at guard. I think we’ve got the offensive linemen that we’re going to have at this point. Brandon Coleman is going to be okay. The line depth was always an issue and that’s being exposed a bit with Laremy Tunsil and possibly Cosmi out will expose that.
