Como Close In on Chelsea Defender as Inter Back Away

By admin — In News — July 17, 2026

Inter Milan won’t be presenting another offer for Trevoh Chalobah for the moment, which opens the door for Como to try and land him if they meet Chelsea’s conditions. La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Nerazzurri have already submitted two bids for the defender—€25 million plus €2 million in add-ons, followed by €28 million with the same bonus structure—with both approaches rejected. Inter has mainly engaged with Chalobah’s representatives rather than submitting a formal proposal, while Chelsea are reportedly asking for a €35 million package. Como are exploring Chalobah as a priority target and also weighing Davinson Sanchez as an alternative, whereas Inter are evaluating a similar investment on the right wing and are concentrating their efforts on Jadon Spence. Christian Chivu has a strong liking for Spence and favors him over other options.
Chalobah, who had often been tied to Serie A during periods when he wasn’t a regular starter, emerged as a key figure in the 2025/2026 season with 47 appearances, a tally that has driven his market value higher. Yet the Nerazzurri have not pinpointed a single man to fill the central defender role. They had contemplated a two-player acquisition at once but have since shifted to a broader assessment, considering keeping Benjamin Pavard instead. Pavard would need to mend relations with the coach and teammates after previous clashes and less favorable behavior, a task that remains on the table for now.
The champions will eventually need to decide, as they have shifted from one option to another—some options being notably different from the rest—without committing to any. Nevertheless, defense isn’t their primary focus at the moment, so their approach may reasonably be more selective. Conversely, Como insist they require a reliable, physically imposing, ready-made contributor who can make an immediate impact.
Across the board, Inter and Como are navigating a market where urgency and fit coexist with price expectations and squad chemistry. Chalobah remains an appealing option for his versatility and experience, but the financials and diplomatic dynamics with Chelsea will dictate the pace of any potential deal. Inter’s broader recruitment strategy continues to emphasize balance: addressing gaps on the right side of the pitch while assessing the center-back market with caution, all while managing internal relationships and long-term project plans. The coming weeks will reveal whether Inter pivot toward alternative profiles like Spence or Sanchez or refocus on other central defensive targets, as the club weighs immediate contribution against strategic longevity.
