​Three Shore players were selected in the 2026 MLB Draft over the weekend — and one was selected so high that it broke a nearly half-century long record.Ranney School product AJ Gracia was the first and only New Jersey player picked on Day 1. The Atlanta Braves selected Gracia at No. 9 – he was the highest pick of a Shore Conference player in 43 years (Jeff Kunkel was the No. 3 pick in 1986). This past season for Virginia, he batted .354 and had 14 home runs and 48 RBI. Prior to Virginia, he spent two seasons at Duke. The Jackson Memorial High graduate just finished his senior year at Troy University in Alabama. He earned Sun Belt All-Tournament Team this past season.
