​New Jersey is taking a look at a possible World Cup encore.The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority has expressed interest in bringing the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup to MetLife Stadium, according to NorthJersey.com.The authority manages the stadium, which is home to the Jets and Giants and hosted eight matches during the FIFA World Cup 2026, including the final on July 19.New Jersey has not made a commitment but is open to discussion, a spokesperson for Gov. Mikie Sherrill told NorthJersey.com.“This summer proved what we already knew: New Jersey is a premier destination for the world’s biggest events. While we have not made a bid, we would welcome the opportunity to bring that energy back for the Women’s World Cup,” Sherrill’s spokesperson, Maggie Garbarino, told NorthJersey.com.The recently concluded World Cup resulted in multiple logistical challenges and criticisms from Sherrill, including the costly commute via NJ Transit to the stadium and objections stemming from FIFA’s insistence on renaming it “New York New Jersey Stadium” for the duration of the tournament.“Any future agreement must recognize the value New Jersey brings to the table and deliver the best possible deal for New Jersey residents,” Garbarino told the Record.The 2031 Women’s World Cup is set to be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica and Jamaica.
