They have put up poor performances season after season, and are now moving on from that era.To compete for the Lombardi Trophy, the franchise has made some important moves in the offseason. They also had to let go of some of their talent last season, including one that could now be heading to a direct divisional rival.Former Cowboys star lands tryout with LionsAccording to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Detroit Lions hosted a tryout for former Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs over the weekend. He spent the majority of his career with the Cowboys before being released in December 2025. He was briefly signed by the Green Bay Packers, but was let go after the season was over.Diggs was once one of the leading cornerbacks, recording an NFL-leading 11 interceptions in 2021. He also earned first-team All-Pro honors and consecutive Pro Bowl selections in 2021 and 2022. His achievements helped to get a massive five-year, $97 million contract extension that included $42.3 million guaranteed. Injuries limited his availability, with a torn ACL in his left knee only allowing him to play two games in 2023. While he returned in 2024 and played 11 games, another injury in the same knee ended his season. He appeared in eight games for the Cowboys last season.Currently a free agent at the age of 27, it looks possible that he could play for the Lions. It was one of eight tryouts conducted that day by the franchise, who are looking to add any experienced player they can to their ranks. Apart from the tryout, no other information has been reported yet.Cowboys head coach explains decision to let go of Trevon DiggsCowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer previously explained why the team waived Diggs. Aside from his injuries and absence on the field, he also highlighted other factors.He said, “It was a culmination of multiple factors. Performance, other elements. He’s been an incredible player for this organization, and I really do, I truly do like Trevon a lot, I wish him nothing but the best and I’m excited to see where he lands and watch him continue his career.”Significantly, he had a disagreement over Christmas travel plans following a December 25, 2026 victory, when he refused to join the team on their flight back to Dallas after a win over the Commanders in Washington. He chose to remain in Washington with his family, and was one of the reasons for his departure.He said, “It was one of many factors, it was not the only factor. I’m not the Grinch that stole Christmas. I love Christmas, I love my family. But at the end of the day, we have a protocol that we go through and the process was not followed.”It remains to b
