Vikings legend Cris Carter has an interesting way of getting his message across to current NFL stars. No, we’re not rehashing his infamous “fall guy” advice to rookies over a decade ago. This time, it’s Carter joking that he threatened Justin Jefferson’s life while urging him not to make a fuss about the Vikings’ quarterback situation last season.“Justin is very, very happy,” Carter said on Monday’s episode of the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams. “His overall leadership, we’re working on some things that, they’re not normal receiver stuff. Because if you look at the quarterback controversy, he hasn’t said one word. I threatened his life and told him to keep his mouth shut. Don’t be like myself. Don’t be like any other wide receiver. Keep doing exactly what you’re doing. You got a great image here. The organization loves you. Don’t complain about the quarterback.”It’s clear that Carter was joking about the threat, but, admittedly, it’s hard to tell because he doesn’t exactly crack a smile while saying it.“Don’t mention the quarterback, unless you can say good things about him,” continued Carter. “It’s only going to help you.”Jefferson has done just that throughout his career. Despite a historic start to his career, the Vikings’ superstar has dealt with a rotating door of quarterbacks over the past few seasons. Since Kirk Cousins’ injury in 2023, Jefferson has caught passes from eight different quarterbacks: Jaren Hall, Josh Dobbs, Nick Mullens, Sam Darnold, J.J. McCarthy, Max Brosmer, Carson Wentz, and Kyler Murray.Through all of the Vikings’ issues in finding their franchise quarterback, Jefferson has consistently remained positive and has regularly defended whoever was the QB at the time. Even during and after the worst statistical season of his career in 2025, Jefferson never publicly complained about or criticized McCarthy.Oct 11, 2026; New Orleans, Louisiana, USA; Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray (1) and wide receiver Justin Jefferson (18) look on against New Orleans Saints during the second half at Caesars Superdome. Stephen Lew-Imagn ImagesCarter, a Hall of Fame receiver who spent 12 years with the Vikings and remains one of the most accomplished players in franchise history, certainly has a questionable delivery style. However, his overall message was one focused on Jefferson’s lasting legacy in Minnesota and the NFL.“We talked about what’s going to be his legacy in Minnesota,” Carter continued. “We talked about, maybe, joining another wide receiver in the rafters, and having that number 18 where no one can ever wear that jersey ever again. And what that takes in the community, on and off the field. So, we talked about some grown-up stuff besides the football stuff.”Related ArticlesInsider adds smoke to trade speculation around Vikings’ Jauan Jennings‘Hill 10’ outside U.S. Bank Stadium gives Vikings fans false hope of Tyreek signingVikings work out v
