WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — In a strong start to the game and a dominant finish, the Williamsport Crosscutters rolled to a 6-1 victory over the Aberdeen IronBirds on Thursday night. The win extended Williamsport’s early-season lead and kept them rolling through the MLB Draft League schedule.
Chris Stanfield anchored the offense for the Crosscutters, delivering a productive performance as the leadoff hitters. The left fielder went 2-for-3 at the plate, earning an RBI and drawing two walks, underscoring his ability to reach base and set the table for his teammates. Stanfield’s keen eye and steady bat helped keep the Crosscutters ahead from the outset, providing run-scoring opportunities that the team capitalized on throughout the game.
Brodey Acres continued to display his electric form this season, contributing again with multiple hits and driving in runs. Acres finished 2-for-5 on the night with two RBIs, adding to his already impressive numbers this season. His contact ability and speed on the bases have been a constant boost for Williamsport’s offense, helping to sustain the pressure on Aberdeen’s pitching staff.
NEPA native Nick Barone also contributed to the scoring, driving in a run for the Crosscutters. Barone started Williamsport’s scoring in the first inning with a sacrifice fly that plated Stanfield, giving the Crosscutters an early lead they would not relinquish. His ability to bring in runs with productive outs has been a valuable asset for the lineup, especially in the early frames where every run counts.
On the mound, Ryker Walton earned his first win of the MLB Draft League season. Walton worked five innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run while registering five strikeouts. His performance helped the Crosscutters maintain control of the game from the start, limiting Aberdeen’s scoring opportunities and giving Williamsport the chance to add on late.
Defensively and offensively, Williamsport showed balance throughout the game, executing timely hits and capitalizing on Aberdeen’s mistakes. The Crosscutters tacked on insurance runs as the night progressed and maintained a comfortable margin, ensuring a decisive victory.
With the win, Williamsport improved to 21-8 on the season and moved to 1-1 in the second half of the schedule. The cross-town rivals will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for a series with a familiar foe.
Looking ahead, Williamsport is set to host the Trenton Thunder, who finished second in the first half, two games behind the Crosscutters. The series kicks off with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. on Friday, July 10, at Bowman Field. The matchup promises to be another test for Williamsport as they seek to extend their winning ways and solidify their standing in the league’s standings.
