IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – Saturday marks the return of the biggest college football rivalry game in the state of Iowa, the Cy-Hawk Game, featuring a new-look Iowa State squad hitting the road for a battle with Kirk Ferentz and the Iowa Hawkeyes.Iowa State has won the last two matchups off the foot of kicker Kyle Konrardy with game-winning 54 yard field goals in the 2024 and 2025 matchups. The Dubuque native is one of two FBS kickers since 1996 with multiple game-winning field goals from beyond 50 yards in the final two minutes of a game.Iowa football will host the Cyclones in a night game for the first time since 2016, a matchup the Hawkeyes claimed with a 42-3 victory. You look at the last six games and it’s basically three, three, and the games have been decided by roughly four and a half points. So I think that’s really what you can expect again on Saturday the two teams get together and it’s, ireally hotly contested game and I can’t imagine that being any different this week,” Ferentz said.”The only we have is the opportunity to play on Saturday and you know, we’re going to be at our best,” Iowa linebacker Jayden Montgomery added.”It’s going to be an amazing opportunity and crazy amount of fans, families come in. So it’s just an enormous opportunity for both us and them,” Iowa State quarterback Jaylen Raynor quarterback mentioned.”They’re physical and they play technically sound and they they don’t care, you know, what they’re doing. They going to they’re going to do it and we got to come out and match their physicality for 60 minutes in the game and we got to play as hard as they do because they play hard enough,” Iowa State head coach Jimmy Rogers highlighted. “All four phases of special teams and and offense defense. So we’ve got to get ready to play a 60 minute game in a hectic environment.”Cy-Hawk Game: By the numbers4 – win for ISU, fourth time in program history Cyclones have won three in a row.5 – fifth Cy-Hawk Game under the lights (2-2 all-time).8 – last eight meetings decided by 10 or fewer points.25 – amount of times Iowa has defeated Iowa State at Kinnick Stadium, compared to 15 from ISU.The 2026 edition of the Cy-Hawk game is set for a 6:36 p.m. kickoff in Iowa City.
