​If your kid is passionate about sports, there’s a good chance you’re familiar with the amount of work that comes along with parenting an athlete. There are all those rides to practice and the heaps of money shelled out for equipment, not to mention the time commitment required to sit in the stands and watch your kid play every game. Yes, kid athletes work hard, but so do their moms and dads.
But one dad is reaping the benefits of his commitment to his son’s success in a pretty sweet way. Scott Strosnider’s son, Sawyer Strosnider, plays for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and is a top prospect to play for the Milwaukee Brewers. In a game last week, Sawyer hit his first professional home run during the seventh inning. “I knew what my dad was wearing that day, and I saw him catch it, so it was a pretty epic moment,” Sawyer toldNBC26 News, “It was pretty crazy knowing he was there at the right time. That was a special moment: my first home run and then my dad got to catch it.”
Scott Strosnider told NBC26 he was out of his seat chatting with guests of a private party in the right outfield when he jokingly told them, “Hey, I’m just out here to catch my son’s ball here really quick, and then I’ll be out of your way.” As he was filming the hit with his phone, he realized the ball was, in fact, headed straight for him, so he caught it.
“It was jubilation,” Scott said. “It was emotional and I think I wept out my eyes a little bit.”View this post on Instagram
Scott and his wife, Kandi Strosnider, say their son has always loved (and been good at) baseball. “We’ve known from an early age he was talented,” Kandi told NBC26. “He was easy, good in class, got good grades, did what he was supposed to do, was home before curfew, and worked really hard. But the best thing about Sawyer is that he is the best brother. We have two younger siblings who are twins, and one of them has down syndrome, and that is his best friend.”
