Dash Daniels Q&A: ‘My goal is to be a Top 10 NBA draft pick’

   ​Dash Daniels, the 18-year-old Australian guard and Melbourne United NBL Next Star, targeting a Top 10 pick in the 2027 NBA Draft, sat down with HoopsHype for an exclusive interview at the 19th edition of adidas Eurocamp in Treviso, Italy.Daniels discussed representing adidas as a global athlete, how his early years playing Australian rules football shaped his game, navigating life as the younger brother of Atlanta Hawks guard Dyson Daniels, and the decision to return for another NBL season rather than enter the 2026 draft.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementDD: It’s insane being able to have these NBA guys, not just regular NBA guys, they’re stars in the league. So being able to have them walk around, and I’m sure I’ll ask some questions to them throughout the camp, and have my coaches like Phil Handy, a three-time NBA champion. It’s pretty insane to have those guys around and talk to them.Adidas Eurocamp 2026, Dash DanielsDD: Yeah, I was a ruckman who played forward, so a little bit of both. Anywhere through the middle and up forward is where I played.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementDD: Yeah, I think so. I think it definitely taught me to be able to bump my man off their line and all that stuff, playing forward and being able to get to space, and all that sort of thing. So yeah, it definitely helped throughout my basketball career.What team were you with?DD: I was with Golden Square. So it’s like a local team in Bendigo, Australia.DD: AFL club? It’s a fast-paced league, so it prepares you for the NBA and all that. It’s just great that it’s got NBA-style players, bigger players. You learn to do that so early, so that’s what I’m trying to get to the NBA, and I’ll hopefully be ready when I get there.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementDD: Most different? I think I’m just a little bit more, like, smoother with the ball. I think I can handle it, like, a little bit better. You know, see the floor. We’re obviously both pretty good at it, but I shoot the ball a little better as well. So I think I’m just more kind of smoother with the ball than he is.DD: Yeah, he’s talking to me every day, so I’m obviously getting his advice on everything, and the thing he tells me is just to go out there, have fun, play hard, stay composed, don’t get too out of the moment, and all that sort of thing.
